How long should a nursing interview answer be?
Aim for around ninety seconds to two minutes per STAR answer. Long enough to show clinical reasoning and reflection, short enough that the panel can score it against the rubric without losing the thread.
Do I need to know the NMC Code by heart for the interview?
You do not need to quote it verbatim, but your answers should clearly reflect its four themes: prioritise people, practise effectively, preserve safety and promote professionalism and trust.
How do I answer clinical scenario questions if I have limited ward experience?
Use placement examples honestly and explain your thinking out loud. Panels score reasoning, escalation and safety-mindedness, not just years on the ward.
